Final Design EXP2 Laboratories - Theme: Science

Final Axonometric design in Sandbox where the clients are Nicole Kuepper and Stephen Hawking. There are two marked laboratories; one for Kuepper and one for Hawking, marked with the green and red light respectively. The meeting area is in the middle marked with the white light. To get there each client would have to travel in a unique way by the terrain ramps provided.

Steven Hawking saw that physics is the fundamental to all science which has since fascinated him since the age of 15. Which is why his lab area is the red area which is high rise. The high altitude nature of this area represents "gravity", the fundamental of physics. Also because of his disability; confined to an automated chair, the high rise area is specifically designed to make him feel "free" and "tall."

For Hawking to make his way to this meeting area, he'd have to take the circular ramp guided by the bushes and illuminated by the lights. This is a relative short trip but is unique because its circular, a shape formation that's the basis of most scientific theory.

Nicole Keupper's lab, marked with green light watches over the back ocean and has a more feminine and nature touch to it. Her career she focuses over global problems using science to find solutions for it. The idea of global leads to the idea of nature and green peace, hence the green lab. The lab also represents Keupper's youth, open and wide because she isn't confined by any disability she has the pleasure of walking around and to the water.

For her to navigate to the meeting area, she'd have to take the back path that goes around the building. This path illuminated with lights that guides to her destination which is bumpy and uneven, representing the global issues she faces; the intensity of the issues.

  1. Strengths of Design: I like your usage of lighting and the symbolism behind the lighting. The light for the clients' paths were quite clever in my opinion. The landscape is also quite interesting because the structure is in between two mountains emphasising the structure more.

Weakness of Design: One thing that you could probably improve on would be the neatness of your axonometric drawings and the shading and hatchings that you've done.

But overall I like your final submission. Good Job Pete!
